General Meetings
The Woodlands Area Quilt Guild meets on the first Wednesday of each month (except November):
South County Community Center – Friendship Center
2235 Lake Robbins Drive (east side of Grogans Mill Road, next to the Library)
Social time is 6:00 – 6:30 pm. The meeting is from 6:30 – until the business is completed.
During the social time we visit with friends & folks we haven’t seen for a while. The library is also open for us to check out the guild’s extensive collection of quilting books. The business meeting will cover anything important to the guild, find out the status of any projects we have going on, and bring up any issues that require a vote. We also conduct the Raffle Drawing, the Block of the Month drawing, and Show & Tell. Finally, the guest speaker for the evening takes the floor.
Board Meetings
The board meets each month at the Friendship Center on the Monday of the week before the guild meeting. All guild members (including those not on the board) are welcome to attend board meetings.

Community Quilt Donations
All donated quilts should be able to withstand frequent machine washing and drying, and be free of allergic factors like pet hair, smoke, and perfume.
Twin-Size
Most organizations we support prefer twin (approx. 60” x 80”) and extra-long twin (approx. 70” x 90”) size quilts. We can donate these to a wide variety of nonprofits who service both adults and young adults such as the Montgomery County Women’s Shelter, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, Child and Adult Protective Services, and Camp for All.
Lap and Throw Quilts (approx. 50” x 65”)
We donate slightly smaller quilts to organizations oriented towards youth and also individuals looking for something warm for use at home, in the car, or for appointments and comfort. These charities most frequently include the Women’s Shelter, Child and Adult Protective Services, and Ronald MacDonald House.
Baby and Toddler/Crib Quilts (between 36” x 36” or 40” and 45” x 60”)
We donate quilts these sizes primarily to the Women’s Shelter, CASA, Rainbow Room, and Ronald MacDonald House, although some may go to groups asking for wheelchairs quilts. We’ve also given some to Project Linus.
Larger/Odd-sized Quilts
We can donate full and queen-sized quilts to the Women’s Shelter, provided they are already both quilted and bound.

Fabric Donation Guidelines
Thank you for considering The Woodlands Area Quilt Guild to receive your fabric donation. We have many generous quilters ask about donating their stash. Since we have specific organizations that receive the quilts we make, we have established the following guidelines for accepting fabric donations.
If your donation meets these requirements, please contact president@waqg.org with a brief description of what you have. We may request additional details or pictures to determine if we have adequate storage. If we can accept your donation, we will arrange to meet you.
1- Only 100% cotton quilting fabric- no poly/cotton blends, polished cottons, drapery or garment (home dec) fabric.
2- Fabric must be new- it can have been pre-washed (unscented detergent) - no recycled fabric from garments, curtains/drapes or previously made projects.
3- Fabric must have been properly stored – cardboard boxes from the attic or garage can’t be accepted due to possible mold, mildew and/or insect damage.
4- Donations should be clean and free from pet hair.
5- If you are a smoker and store your fabric where you smoke, we cannot use it. Even if your fabric has been aired out, once we touch it with a hot iron and steam, the smell comes back. Many of our quilts are donated to people with pre-existing conditions or possible allergies- we don’t want to make their situation worse.
6- No cuts under 1/8 yard or fat quarter- we already have plenty of scraps. Anything under 1/8 yard (9” x width of fabric) or a fat quarter (18” x 21”) will not be accepted. We also do not need miscellaneous leftover pieces or blocks.
7- We will accept some UFOs that contain all the fabric and the instructions for completing the quilt. Please include any specialty ruler required for construction.
8- No fabric older than 15 years old- fabric does have a ‘shelf life’ and we want the quilts we donate to be durable for a reasonable period.
9- Please do not drop off anonymous donations at the table at Guild meetings.
Thank you for your understanding. We all want fabric to go to a “good use,” but the guild is limited in the type we can accept and store.
