Kim studied textiles, design and printed surface design in college, and her style has continuously evolved since then. She has won numerous awards in quilting, including an AQS Choice Award and the National Association of Certified Quilt Judges’ Award of Merit for Outstanding Achievement in Quiltmaking. Details:
· Kits are available at meetings from July 3rd until gone.
· Completed projects are due March 5th 2025.
· All quilts should be quilted and bound when turned in.
· Size:
o No smaller than 45” x 60”.
o No larger than 60” x 80”.
· Quilts can be created by one or more quilters.
· A complimentary tote bag is encouraged if fabric allows. It should be simple- not with a lot of hardware, etc. A pattern is available at www.pellonprojects.com called Simple, Sturdy Tote Bag. (The only change I would recommend to this bag pattern is to add some kind of interfacing to the handles.) Here is the link for the pdf instructions.
· If you still have additional fabric, consider adding a simple cosmetic bag.
· Quilts will be shown at the March 5th meeting and membership will vote for Viewer’s Choice- 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
Supplies:
· Each kit contains a variety of fabrics. You can use fabric from the kit plus any additional fabric.
· Review your fabric carefully- some of the fabrics are seconds and have flaws.
· Batting will be available at the October, January and February meetings. Please email Karen Estalella (kkpayne52@gmail.com) the size of batting you will need a week in advance so you can pick it up at the meeting.
· Your kit may not contain enough fabric for backing. If you require backing, please email Karen with the amount you require and a picture of your quilt a week in advance, and we will try to supply a backing from the guild stash.
Questions- Contact Mary Ellen Wahlheim or Karen Estalella.
Join your quilting sisters at our annual quilting retreat at Camp for All in Burton, TX. Retreat is a fun time to enjoy sewing and fellowship with both old and new guild friends. If you are new to the guild, come meet members and start to build friendships. It’s also a time to learn from each other. We solve lots of quilty problems together!
Camp for All is a very special place that provides children with special needs and challenging illnesses and their families with opportunities for independence, increased self-confidence, and community living skills. WAQG members have supported CFA for many years with donations of quilts, wheelchair quilts, creation of quilts with blocks made by campers, and curtains for some of the cabins. While at camp, you will have the opportunity to tour the camp and appreciate all that they have to offer. Check out their website at www.campforall.org.
We sew in a large room with large wooden tables with room for 30 quilters. Bring your sewing machine, sewing supplies, and several projects. Lighting is not the best, so you might want to bring extra lighting. Chairs are provided, but are a bit low. Many members bring their own sewing chairs. You can sew at your own schedule….get up early, sew all day until the bell rings for meals, and sew into the night if you like.
All meals are provided by CFA’s very talented chef and kitchen staff. They will cater to any special dietary needs.
There are three choices for lodging. The camp cabins sleep 6-8 in dormitory style with community bathrooms. Campers in the cabins bring their own bed linens. All bathrooms at camp are handicap accessible. Retreat houses have four bedrooms and a common living room. Each bedroom sleeps two campers. There are two bathrooms that serve two bedrooms each. The health center rooms are right next to the room we sew in. Guild members with mobility or health issues that desire to be close to our sewing area can choose the clinic rooms. Bed linens and towels are provided in the retreat houses and health center rooms.
Sign up for retreat by contacting Amy DePan. Registration will be limited to the first 30 who register. Fees for camp will be announced later in the fall when CFA sets their meal fees for 2025. Contact Amy DePan for an approximate price.
