November 6 - Workshop - Binding - from Functional to Fantastic
Those “I LOVE that” projects most of us have started have somehow been in
a bag, box or drawer for who-knows-how-long. Here is just the challenge
to help you complete six (6) projects over the next 11 months! A UFO is
defined as an object that you have ALREADY STARTED but have NOT FINISHED.
The deadline for finishing the UFO Challenge is our January 2026 meeting. Those who participate commit to the completion of 6 projects – approximately one every two months. Those who complete all six projects will receive a ticket for each project and be included in a special drawing for great prizes at the January meeting!
A UFO is not necessarily a quilt, but it should be a quilted item. It can be any size you choose, wall-hanging to king size, including table toppers, wearable art and other personal articles. Other examples could be tree skirts, bags, jelly roll rugs, etc.
Here are the Guidelines:
1. As a guild member, you must enter up to 6 projects to participate. If you are feeling energetic, feel free to enter more!
2. Each entry should be listed on the WAQG UFO Challenge form. You will be given two copies - one to complete and return to the Challenge Committee and one to keep for yourself to track how well you are doing. We will accept completed forms at the March and April Guild meetings – the April meeting is the deadline for submitting your form. If you cannot make either meeting, please contact either Linda Harris or Laurie Adams to e-mail your form. Your form should include the name of the UFO, the state of the project at the start of the Challenge, and the date you present the project the committee for check-in. Projects do not have to be completed in the order listed. However, once you submit your form, you are committed to those projects – no substitutions!!!
3. In addition to the six required UFO’s for the challenge, you may add additional optional projects if you get on a roll and are feeling particularly industrious!! Same rules apply to any optional add-ons. PLUS, you’ll receive an extra drawing ticket for each optional UFO completed. However, your original six UFO’s must be completed to be eligible to receive a ticket for any optional UFO’s.
4. “State at Start” – please indicate where you are in your UFO process: blocks cut out, blocks ready to put together, you’ve completed 6 of 12 blocks, just needs binding, etc.
5. UFO’s are considered FINISHED when they are in their final form. For example, a quilt must be quilted and bound. Quilt tops “only” will not be considered finished. Other fabric items must simply be in their final form.
6. When a UFO is completed, either bring your project to the Guild meeting or have pictures of the completed project to show the Challenge Committee. You don’t have to wait until the end of the Challenge if you finish ahead of the deadline. Your completion will be noted and given credit for an entry ticket for prizes at the end of the Challenge.
7. As you complete your UFO projects, we invite you to bring them to the Guild meeting for “Show and Tell”. You are encouraged to bring in your finished UFO’s beginning with the May meeting.
If you have any questions, please contact Linda Harris (lhharris1972@gmail.com) or Laurie Adams (Pablo90512@aol.com).
